Pink Saturday Reportage
On June 28th, 2025, I woke up early and headed to Zaandam to experience my very first Pink Saturday (Roze Zaterdag) — an annual Dutch tradition that began in 1979 as a protest for LGBTQ+ rights.
Now it takes place each year in a different city across the Netherlands. It was an emotional day for me — meeting people, capturing their stories, and supporting my friend Rafael, who came as Elza in full drag. Watching him shine, knowing what he’s been through, made everything feel even more real.
There’s been progress — yes. But the fight isn’t over. Queer rights, visibility, and safety still need our voices,
our presence, and our solidarity.
